This exhibition commemorating the grand opening of the Miyanomori Art Museum, Sapporo introduced the world of Vietnamese lacquer painting art, which has developed through a variety of techniques and expressions.
The exhibition featured works from the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum’s collection as well as works from the 1980s onwards by contemporary artists representing the Vietnamese art scene. Although the exhibition lasted only 27 days, it was a valuable opportunity for many visitors from all over Hokkaido to immerse themselves in the charm of Vietnamese lacquer painting art. This exhibition is a traveling exhibition that also tours Kyoto International Community House and the Japan Foundation Forum in Tokyo.
One piece that particularly attracted attention this time was King Ly Nam De and the Queen (artist unknown, owned by the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum), which was on display in Japan for the first time. Since the work was a valuable piece of art heritage in Vietnam, great care was taken to control the humidity and other factors during transportation and exhibition.
At the opening ceremony, we received congratulatory and encouraging words from Takeo Mizukami, director of the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, and Shigeo Okuoka, director of the Sapporo Art Museum. In addition, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Vietnamese Embassy, Luu Van Khe, also gave a speech and expressed his gratitude for hosting the exhibition.
